National Student Exchange

 

Application Process

  1. Attend a NSE information session, usually held in late October and early November, or request a NSE Directory from your NSE coordinator.
  2. Read the NSE Directory (paying particular attention to the beginning pages which describe NSE application, placement, and exchange policies and procedures) and the NSE informational flyer.
  3. Select five to ten campuses of interest to you.
  4. Research exchange options by reviewing campus catalogs, public relations materials, and World Wide Web information (www.nse.org).
  5. Consult your NSE coordinator and academic advisor to identify appropriate exchange options. A flexible academic plan is a must for exchange participation.
  6. Discuss NSE participation with family, friends, and former exchange participants.
  7. Complete the NAU NSE application (available at NSE information sessions or at the Center for International Education) and pay the NSE application fee to the Bursar’s office.
  8. Consult with your home campus financial aid office to ascertain your needs for the exchange term(s). Refer to information in the NSE Directory for policies governing federally funded aid application and disbursement.
  9. By February 15, file or update your FAFSA for federally funded financial aid. List on FAFSA the campus codes for all campuses at which you have the potential to be placed on Plan A. List your home campus as well.
  10. Consult your NSE coordinator to prioritize campus options for exchange.
  11. Turn in your completed NSE application and attend your scheduled NSE interview with the NSE coordinator.

The Priority deadline for NSE applications is 1/31 for anytime during the following academic year.


Late applications will be accepted until the end of February, although applications received by the Priority deadline will have priority over late applications.


Sometimes NSE campuses will still have space available after the March placements are complete.  If the late application deadline has passed, and you are still interested in applying for an upcoming semester, contact your NSE coordinator to discuss potential post-conference placement options.
