About the Center for International Education
Vision Statement
We believe that international education is a fundamental part of both general education and professional studies. To be internationally educated is to be better prepared for the social, political, technological and economic realities that we experience today in a culturally diverse, highly competitive and interdependent world. Our mission is to ensure that international education is accessible to all academically qualified students regardless of background.
Mission Statement
The International Office seeks to foster an educational environment that increases international awareness: one that truly appreciates, and seeks to better understand, the meaning and value of diversity. Toward these ends, the mission of the International Office of Northern Arizona University is:
- To promote and advance internationalization at Northern Arizona University.
- To encourage a supportive, safe, and academically challenging campus community that welcomes and attracts a diverse population of international students.
- To advise and assist international students at NAU by providing the services they require and encouraging their engagement in university and community life.
- To work effectively with all units of NAU to identify, develop and support international opportunities for NAU students, staff and faculty, whether those opportunities are abroad, at the Flagstaff campus or at one of NAU’s distance education sites.
- To encourage NAU students to study abroad and to deliver assistance to participants throughout the duration of study abroad programs.
- To facilitate the National Student Exchange program, through which students are given the opportunity to experience the wealth of diversity that exists throughout North America.
- To provide support for international faculty and employees who work at NAU and for guests who visit.
- To ensure accessibility of international education to all by increasing funding for scholarships and maximizing affordability.
