OTHER INTERNATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES

 

 

Short-Term Lecturing at Chinese Universities

  • NAU faculty from any discipline may apply to participate in this program.
  • NAU faculty may provide lectures over one or two weeks at NAU partner universities in China .
  • Proposed program may include one week at one institution and the second week at a different institution.
  • Faculty will receive housing, meals, ground transportation and sight- seeing at host institutions’ expense.
  • Faculty will receive a $1000 stipend from CIE to subsidize the cost of travel to China
  • Apart from the lectures to students, faculty are expected to interact with host faculty in the discipline and explore possibilities for teaching/scholarly collaboration.
  • To apply, send a statement of interest to Dr. Harvey Charles, Vice Provost for Int’l Education that includes the areas in which lectures will be given, cities in China in which you may have a preference and a commitment to infuse insights gained during this experience into courses taught at NAU.  Please send a recent copy of your CV as well as a more detailed outline of the topics the lectures will cover.  This is important for review by the host institution.

 

NAU Faculty-In-Residence Program

  • NAU faculty from any discipline may apply to teach at BILATERAL partner institution
  • Faculty will teach two courses at partner university.
  • Faculty MUST recruit a minimum of 15 students to accompany them.
  • NAU students must commit to enroll in two courses taught by NAU faculty at host institution.
  • Students at host institution may enroll in NAU faculty courses.
  • Faculty will continue to receive regular NAU salary and benefits.
  • Faculty will receive free housing at host institution.
  • To apply, send a letter of interest and CV to Dr. Harvey Charles, Vice Provost for Int’l Education, with at least two options for teaching sites as well as proposed courses to be taught and accompanying syllabi.

 

USAC Visiting Professor Program

The USAC-NAU partnerships allows for NAU professors to teach courses at many of the USAC locations around the world. Faculty may commit for one semester or for a summer program. (More information)

 

Fulbright "Traditional" Teaching / Research Program

  • Sends 800 US faculty overseas to teach and/or lecture each year.
  • One in three applications is funded.
  • NAU provides top-up funds to ensure that income during period of Fulbright award in comparable to salary from NAU.

Fulbright Distinguished Chairs Program

  • The most prestigious appointment in the Fulbright Scholar program.
  • Candidates should be senior scholars and have a significant publication and teaching record.
  • Forty awards for the 2008-09 academic year.
  • Awards are typically four months in length.

Fulbright Senior Specialist Program

  • Short-term academic opportunities for US faculty and professionals (two to six weeks).
  • Applications may be submitted throughout the year and reviews conducted eight times per year.
  • Applications must be in one of the 20 eligible disciplines listed.
  • To encourage new activity that go beyond the traditional Fulbright-sponsored lecturing and research.
  • To promote increased connections between US and non-US post-secondary academic institutions.
  • Examples of activities including consulting on faculty develop, conducting needs assessment, lecturing to graduate/undergraduate students, participate in or lead seminars/workshops, conduct teacher training workshops, develop/assess academic curricula.

Fulbright-Hays Faculty Research Abroad Fellowship Program

Funds fellowships through institutions of higher education (IHEs) to faculty members who propose to conduct research abroad in modern foreign languages and area studies to improve their skill in languages and their knowledge of the culture of the people of these countries. Funds support: travel, maintenance stipend and research related expenses. (More information)

 

Fulbright-Hays Seminar Abroad / Bilateral Projects Program

  • Seven to ten seminars with fourteen to sixteen participants in each seminar annually.
  • Seminars are four to six weeks in duration.
  • Seminars held exclusively in countries outside of Western Europe.
  • Intended for faculty in the social sciences and humanities.
  • Aim is to improve their understanding and knowledge of peoples and cultures of other countries.
  • Funds airfare, room, board, tuition and fees, and program-related travel within host country.

Title VI Programs: Group Projects Abroad Program

Curriculum Development Team: Spends four to six weeks in a foreign country acquiring resource material for curriculum development in modern foreign languages or area studies program. (More information)

Group Research or Study Projects: Funds a group of faculty from institutions of higher education and graduate and undergraduate students to undertake research/study in a foreign country /region for three to twelve months. (More information)
